Dear Madam/Sir,

I was wondering what is the rationale for deciding between advertisement and announcement. Sale can also be announced by local news papers if it is covered as a journalistic endeavor and not explicitly advertised.

Thank you for the answer.

When I wrote this, I was thinking that announcement is too formal a word for something as ordinary as a sale. I believe it is a word used more usually to announce events like births, deaths and marriages. or in the commercial sense for something like the closing of a business.

I am just wondering if I could say
"is a too formal word".

Best regards,

Too formal a word or a too formal word? An interesting question. The construction (too formal a word) is possible since too qualifies the adjective and is directly related to the noun (word). I think it creates a better balance in the sentence.
