Is 'never seen' present perfect?

Hi all,
I think:
"I never saw her before." means that probably I know her, but we have not seen her yet.
"I have never seen her before." means that I have no idea about her.
Is that right?

Hi Jinhuievo,

Using the past simple usually indicates a reference to an incident that is identified in the past. In that sense 'before' is not an exact time. If you say: 'I never saw her' you must be saying that on that occasion in the past (mentioned by another person) you didn't see her as in;

A Did you see Maria at the theatre last night?

B No, I never saw her.

'I have never seen her before' indicates that up till now you haven't seen her - you haven't yet met.
