TOEFL essay samples: Learning a new language #1 (permalink) Sat Sep 15, 2007 5:44 am   TOEFL essay samples: Learning a new language

Hi. I'm actually practicing my writting skills and This essay took me about 40 minute to write and revise it. Can someone rate it please ? I'd be glad. I'm gonna begin taking writting classes on monday, then I'd like to know which level can my written english be considered. Intermediate ? Advanced ?

Learning a new language is indeed a problem for most of people who do. It takes time, and consequently, results in frustration as we speak incorrectly in public. I moved recently to Canada, and I can say that there are two important factors needed to learn a new language, firstly is confidence, and the second one is to practice it as hard as you can, and definitely, not being shy. Therefore, the only way to learn a language is speaking with others, not having fear in commit mistakes, on the other hand, if you don’t practice, it will result in frustrations, and consequently, you won’t be able to communicate.

Fist of all, in my opinion, students who wish to learn a new language should have a good teacher or people used as support, because the beginning is the base of everything when you learn a new language. As was previously stated, you must not be shy to speak as you are having classes, or if you are in a new country. Speak with others; ask the teacher and people you know to correct you when you speak incorrectly, otherwise it will take a long time to learn, bringing you more problems and frustrations.

As time is passing, new ways to learn a language are found, providing to students fast results and giving them more confidence and will to learn it, as I said before, it also depend of the way that your teacher teaches. Nowadays, the Internet is such a good way to learn a language; I have learned most of my grammar on Internet, and also reading book is an excellent way to learn it. Thus, I must say that speaking and communicating with people is the best and fast way to learn a language, and as better as you get it, more will and confidence you will have to master it.

To conclude, Learning a new language is all a question of time; you make this time. Decisions have to be taken, whether learn fast or not it will depend on you. People who don’t have these problems, shyness and laziness, and also have good teacher will surely learn it without many problems, consequently being able to master a new language.
