GRE Essay: Political decisions and activities affect all aspects of people’s live Mon Sep 17, 2007 0:17 am  GRE Essay: Political decisions and activities affect all aspects of people’s live

Hello!

Question:
It is unfortunate but true that political decisions and activities affect all aspects of people’s lives.

Answer:
I mostly agree with the speaker’s opinion about the influence of political decisions on humans lives; however, he fails to acknowledge the fact that such impact could be either positive or negative. On the other hand, there are some aspects of people’s lives that are not affected by political activities in any case.

Unfortunately, many of political decisions tend to change out lives unfavorably. Politicians are often ruled by their own ambitions and forget about endeavors of the citizenry. Sometimes it’s hard to confront a particular declaration with the effects on the population, like in the case of the new environmental policy. On the other hand, an increasing of a tax rate influences most of the components of our existence; for example capabilities to receive a good education and appropriate medical care are decreasing dramatically. As for me, I’m particularly concerned with the foreign policy, because I want to continue my education abroad and any tensions among countries could radically reduce my chances to do so. As the result, we have to rely on people, we have elected, because our well-being and our future are in their hands. I want to believe that they do their best in order to make our lives better, but sometimes their decisions are too hasty.

At the same time, some political activities are able to improve many aspects of our subsistence a lot. Up-to-date health care program helps to prolong and improve quality of our lives. New governmental holiday gives a person a chance to spend the time with the family or to plunge into a favorite hobby. Based upon a variety of these examples, I’m able to conclude that the most parts of our lives both in leisure and working time depend partially or fully on the solutions, made by governments. On the other hand some laws affect only certain group of people, others impact the entire humankind. As the most vivid example of this thesis I could suggest the abolition of slavery in the United States after the Civil War. This act has completely changed the lives of millions and it’s quite hard to imagine the character of the contemporary world without it.

As we could have seen, a government influences many parts of our lives; nevertheless, there are some aspects that remain intact despite on any political perturbations. I’m talking about the spiritual end, both in the ecclesiastical form and in the form of relationship among people. Does the new law impact your mutual relation with parents or a darling? Certainly not, because these things existed long before the first government on the Earth had been established and they will remain the same after the fall of the last one. At the same time, a lot of examples from man history are confirming the same approach in the religious sphere. During the century the government of the Soviet Union tried to eliminate Christian religion by harsh laws and prosecution of priests. However, the aim wasn’t reached since the faith of people has been stronger than any political activities.

In sum, political decisions have been dramatically changing out existence; we depend on them in many spheres and often it causes negative consequences. Nevertheless, there are aspects of our lives that don’t depend on politics at all and, probably, they are the major ones.
