someone told me that to make my english better i have to use a good vocabulary? is it true
e.g you are talking fast.....instead of fast i had to use the word briskly.

.
Yes. The more words you not only understand, but also can use appropriately, the better your score is likely to be.

While it is true that people tend to use less of their total vocabulary in informal speech, that does not mean that the less often used words are not necessary or important. Your example ('briskly') is really not a particularly unusual or high-level word. In connection with speech, that word would probably be used more often to describe the manner in which someone said something rather than simply the speed of the words. Knowing how to use words appropriately is just as important as using the words themselves.

Hi,

I think Amy's comment
Quote:

is of particular value. A candidate who uses complex words inaccurately is likely to receive as low a mark as a candidate who sticks to simple vocabulary without making that many mistakes.

It really depends on what score you need how important it is for you to demonstrate extraordinary skill in word choice. Communicative competence is what matters the most, so using very uncommon or old-fashioned words is neither expected nor recommended.

All the best

Hi, Amy

Most of the time people do not know how and when to use these 2 little words: "a" and "the" Smile
