TOEFL essay: Schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers... #1 (permalink) Sun Sep 30, 2007 2:04 am   TOEFL essay: Schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers...

It is controversial that whether schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers or not. To my opinion, students should be asked about their teachers. Those evaluations are good for the teachers, the school administrators and the students themselves.

Student evaluations are good for teachers. From those evaluations, teachers know what students like or dislike about the class. They realize which subject students think is difficult or easy. They discover activities that students enjoy as well. Therefore, teachers find out ways that reach students and avoid ways that don’t. For example, they can change the way they present a lecture or a talk. Or they can encourage students to participate in activities they like. All of these things are to improve classes to meet students’ demand.

Student evaluations are good for school administrators. Student evaluations give an idea of which teachers are most effective and popular among students. They help administrators to know if students are satisfied or dissatisfied with the school program. With these evaluations, administrators work better with teachers. They can work together to improve the school program.

Student evaluations are good for students themselves. They have to think carefully before deciding whether a teacher does well or badly in his teaching. They have a chance to give their opinions about activities which they think are interesting and which they think not. They have to think of what kind of help they need in their study. In other words, to make evaluations offer students opportunities to develop their honesty and responsibility.

In conclusion, those reasons make it a good idea to let students evaluate their teachers. For improvements in our education system, that is an excellent choice.

TOEFL essay: Schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers.Agree or Disa #4 (permalink) Wed Sep 17, 2008 7:16 am   TOEFL essay: Schools should ask students to evaluate their teachers.Agree or Disa

According to me, students evaluating teachers is a good idea. This will give students an opportunity to examine and grade or rate their teachers. There are many reasons for which I think this idea is good. Giving students an opportunity to evaluate teacher will not only help them but also the teachers and the administrative staff. Teacher will be able to determine the likes and dislike of students.

After family, teacher plays an important part in the life of students. They act as a role model form which students get knowledge. Many times students are not convinced with their teacher’s performance. This may affect the performance in academic life as well as future. For instance, I had a teacher in grade 9th, she thought us mathematics, students were not convinced with her performance and finally, majority of the students fail to pass that subject. Evaluating their teacher will give them the opportunity to get rid of that teacher.

But, there should be some criteria on which the students can evaluate the teacher. For instance, students can evaluate their teacher only on teaching skill and not appearance. Students of every grade should not be allowed to grade their teachers because students of grade 1st might not be able to evaluate their teacher, so in turn their parents must be give the opportunity to evaluate the teacher.

Finally, I don’t completely support that school should allow students to evaluate teachers, because students might not properly evaluate those teachers who might give more homework or scold them, thus due that school might loose a good teacher. Students should be give the opportunity but the final decision should be in the hands of management.
