Toefl® essay : Why do you think people attend college or university

My essay:

Today, many people want go study at higher education like college or university. In my opinion, the reason of people’s attending college or university are: gaining knowledge and preparing for future works.

Firstly, colleges or universities are good environments for people to study to gain their knowledge. Knowledge is unlimited and the knowledge we learned in high schools is never enough to us to understand everything in the world. So, we often want to learn more and more. In colleges or universities, we will increase our knowledge about our interesting subjects such as: science, society, history, law,… and become professional people in these fields.

Secondly, people attend college or university because they want to prepare for their jobs in the future. As we known, almost companies in the world require their candidates have at least one particular major degree. And, a college or university is a place that we can earn degrees. In addition, when we study at higher education, we not only gain our experiences in our major but also improve our communication skills and working skills which help us a lot in future works.

In conclusion, I believe that gaining knowledge and preparing for future works are most common reasons to make people decide to go to colleges or universities.
