Hi, my name is Christoph and I will take a TOEFL test later this month for being able to study in England for one semester next year. I finished this first essay just in the 30 minute time frame. I don't really know how to evaluate it. For me it was pretty hard to find the right idea what to write about when I read the question. It was even harder to finish the whole thing in time. I hope you can help me to evaluate this essay and it would be nice if you would have some tips for me.

Essay
I encountered various of situations in my life that seemed to be going badly but then turned out well. One of those situations was when I was searching for a place to work for my time in civil service. I had to do civil service for ten months here in Germany and I planned to begin to study right after finishing it.
While I was optimistic to find a vacancy pretty fast in the beginning, it became clear to me rather quickly that it was not that easy. After I got several negative replies to my applications because of the huge amount of applicants for only few free vacancies, I started getting anxious that my schedule for finishing my civil service and then beginning to study right afterwards would crumble. The worst part of it was, that if I would not be able to find a job within the next four weeks, it would not only have pushed me back for one month, but for one whole year, because the university I wanted to study at only took new students once a year.
With so little time left I did not have much hope anymore to find a job in time. So everything seemed pretty bad for me when things suddenly changed.
One of the vacancies which I applied to and got a negative reply from called me two weeks before deadline and told me that I could have the job and start immediately because the guy they originally employed had gotten an offer to do his civil service in South America which he wanted to do badly. Of course I aggreed to that offer which I did not believe would happen anymore. Despite the fact that I had to work there for ten months and then immediately start to study without having much time to prepare for it, it was one of the best things that could have happened to me. Things changed for the better in the end.
