TOEFL essay: Do we need music? International music vs. traditional music #1 (permalink) Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:30 am   TOEFL essay: Do we need music? International music vs. traditional music

TOPIC 1: There are may different types of the music in the world toady. Why do we need music? Is the traditional music of a country more important than the international music that is heard everywhere nowadays?

Music is a special art which is made of various rhythms and tunes arranged in a way that is pleasant or exciting to listen to. In our human lives, music makes up a crucial part. It seems to be a friend that is always accompany by us whenever we have experienced happy or sad moments.

In happy time, it is necessary to have a friend to cheer and share with us the unforgettable feelings; and music comes, multiplying these time by its melodies, themes and tunes.

In addition, ever since we have been in sadness, once more, music will relieve our pain, balance ourselves, help us overcome the difficulties in its own special way. Thus, for many people, music is essential thing to live happily throughout their lives.

Nowadays, international music have a wide-spread disfussion. Many youngsters make too extreme love for it to be willing forget or have inferrior views on traditional one. I strongly disagree with these viewpoints. For my part, traditional music always has a great social role.

At first, it is the precise properties which have been obtained from artistic hardworking of the people in our nation for many years and been retained until present for our temporary generation. In fact, the traditional musics of Vietnam namely “Nha nhac Cung Dinh Hue” and “Cong chieng Tay Nguyen” have just awarded by UNESCO with the world intangible cultural heritage not many years so far. Secondly, traditional music is also a symbol that distinguishes , showing cultures or characteristics from country to country. Moreover, in reality and in almost formal activities, traditional musics is a vital part and used to show our people’s respects to guests or foreigners.A warm welcome by our traditional songs in wedding parties or notable governmental ceremonies such as a visit of President Bush to Vietnam last year, in my opinion, could be good examples.

Generally speaking, music takes an important role in our lives and helps us with a happy moments. In particular, traditional music needs to be reserved and honored for its priceless and irreplaceable values.
