Hi,
Could the expression ''going through a rough time'' also be used in this context ?
I've never heard the one that you chose to use here, before.
Thanks

'Going through a rough time' is a very similar phrase that could be subtituted here. the difference between them is that a 'thin time' indicates a distinct loss of something (profit, numbers, etc.) - a slimming down. 'A rough time' could indicate all sorts of difficult factors.

Hello Bev,

I'm wondering if we can say the following phrase: "I've fallen on thin times".
After all, we say "I've fallen on hard times".

Could you set the record straight for me, please?

I would say that 'lean times' is far more common than 'thin times', Tort.

We went through some lean times.
These are lean times at the moment.
and yes, even
He fell on lean times.
