Hi,

I've found the following information on a corporate website. What do you think of a company that describes their approach as "relentless"?

Our Approach

* Bold Consistent Vision
* Focused
* Customer Satisfaction
* Relentless
* Respectful
* Extraordinary teamwork
* Accountable
* Open and Honest communication

They probably want to state that they are unstoppable, untiring, irresistible and sedulous. Uncompromising or adamant maybe as well.

But I agree that the word choice is a bit dodgy.

Many companies describe themselves as "relentless" in one way or another. As Ralf indicates, it means they're untiring and uncompromising. It's so common now that I don't find anything wrong with using it as a buzzword. (It's certainly not as bad as that word "dodgy" in the last post, which in people's actual usage seems to mean almost anything negative.) The alternatives to "relentless" would be even worse. Imagine a company describing itself as "dogged".

Relentless in our drive for money,money,money?

Seems like it needs to be relentless in "something" to sound right

It usually understood to mean relentless in product innovation, solving customers' technical problems, quality improvement, etc.

Hi Jamie,

You're right, dodgy is a pretty generic term. But it doesn't stem from "dogged". Shifty or dubious more rather meets the purpose. It can probably be derived from "to dodge sth". Do you not use it in America?

We don't use "dodgy" in America, and that's why I don't understand it. Plus, the British will say that something like spoiled meat is "dodgy", and no matter how putrid a piece of meat is, I've never seen it dodge anything.

I didn't mean to give "dogged" as a synonym for "dodgy". I meant that "dogged" is a synonym for "relentless".

Fair point.

But it may look as if it had been dodged by some dodgy butcher or due to dodgy climatic circumstances Laughing

Hi, I think you experienced me as a left wing socialist. So, I also think you won,t be puzzeled when I ask what companies could be relentless to?

Have a good Day
