Hello, I can email you some grammar lessons that I have compiled for my students. I don't see your email address though. You can send me a private message with your email address and I'll send you some lessons if you like. Take care, Linda _________________ One Way of Learning English Grammar

I want to be perfect in grammar.
How can I learn good English grammar please?
Could you help me out?
This is my email ID
Please send me any kind of software for learning grammar.
If you want to be good in grammar you have to stop treating your forum posts as text messages. 1. Start a sentence with a capital letter. 2. Do not forget about a period at the end of a sentence. 3. Put a question mark after a question. 4. Do not spell please like please. 5. Look up words in a dictionary. It will help you avoid spelling mistakes. _________________ con·text - The part of a text or statement that surrounds a particular word or passage and determines its meaning. |

Milanya,
Should we use comma after the if clause? -- "If you want to be good in grammar" _________________ First lesson - English, not english. I, not i. ~A student of English |

Hi Gray...
As you are aware, every if clause sentence will have at least two separate (individual) parts without any conjunction. The first part of the sentence will be an incomplete one while the second part will be completing the full context of the sentence.
So, if we don't want to use the comma in a if clause sentence then we will be forced to use 'then', 'so', 'therefore', etc to complete the sentence...
What do you think..

The usage of commas in English is quite strict in some cases, but not so in others. I think the overall frequency has been decreasing over the last couple of decades.
Some rules of thumb: - The necessary complement to a verb (subject, object, and such) should not be seperated from it by a comma, unless keeping them together is impossible for other reasons. This includes substantival (noun) clauses. - The same applies to separating adjectives and defining adjectival clauses from their nouns. - The opposite applies to non-defining adjectival clauses. - As to non-necessary adjuncts to a verb, the writer has considerable freedom in deciding whether he should separate them by a comma or not. This includes many adverbs and adverbial clauses, such as "if" clauses.
Note that there are many exceptions; use your instinct or whatever you have. |
