Please suggest which to take... (I should go for TOEFL or IELTS) #1 (permalink) Sun Nov 04, 2007 16:51 pm   Please suggest which to take... (I should go for TOEFL or IELTS)

Hi,

I have to apply to a university in EU for postgraduate studies.
The application requires that I show my english language proficiency and mention my scores for either TOEFL or IELTS...

Now I am a bit confused, whether I should go for TOEFL or IELTS, the worry is not so much over the difficulty level variance in the two exams rather with respect to utility beyond the impending objective...

That is to say which of the two is most acceptable globally, since I may be applying in more universities in EU as well as USA.

Also do the two differ in validity of the scores obtained or the duration over which the scores will be accepted.

I am sorry if I am asking too many questions in one post..

Thanks
Shyling

Hi shyling,

I can strongly recommend the IELTS test. It is recognised all over the world, it is the preferred test in most of the UK and Australia, and is often accepted by educational institutions in the US as well.
