'Have' is the present tense: I have a headache now.
'Had' is the past tense: I had a headache yesterday.

I think that we need to fix a few more basic problems with your English first:

Can you explain a bit more about this? Thanks.

Hi all
The past perfect is used for an action that occurred before another action in the past.
In this sentence this doesn't happen
If you had got that job, would you have been able to move to a new house?
Can anyone explain why
Thank you

Hi,

In your sentence:
Quote:
If you had got that job, would you have been able to move to a new house?
the verb in the first part is indeed in the past perfect tense but it is also in the subjunctive form, suggesting an 'unreal' situation.

Thank you Alan
I think this kind of sentence is too complex for an elementary level

Does that mean both of them( got or gotten) are the past participle form of get?
