I have just come back from TOEFL® IBT exam.

I had exam in Cyprus today. The exam is not bad at all but reading and listenning sections were harder than I expected, however, on the other hand speaking and writing sections were easier than I anticipated. Especially vocabulary questions in reading part were about rare words and there were only 1 question for each lecture or conversation in listenning section that repeats some part of the speaking and asks about intention or purpose of the speaker. So it was not the best for me but I still hope a considerable score from those two section and an adequate score at all. I will make you know about my score when I receive it.

Also I want to thank to whole members of this community, particularly Torsten and Alan, they contributed me much in improving my writing skills by their comments and suggestions.

If there are questions in your mind about any matter of test, I am here to answer and help.

I have got my score just few minutes ago and I have suprised again :)

Reading - 27 (expecting between 20-25)
Listening - 29 (expecting between 20-25)
Speaking - 18 ????? (expecting between 25-30)
Writing - 25 (expecting between 25-30)

Total= 99

Total score is fine for me but speaking is too low and I think that would not be good reference for applying US universities. Any suggestions about speaking?

Well . over all socre is gud , yeah in speaking its a bit low. but yet its gud.
Do u want to improve speaking part ?
i guess they dont bother abt each part , they want an overall gud score isnt it ???

my test is also near . can u please tell me one thing that how to access those free sample tests on ets.org ?? as i hav registerd for the test , n i tried to access those tests but i just cudnt .

Hey guys, I've not posted here yet but I did the same test on Nov 9, and it was very difficult (mainly because I was so nervous) but look at these scores...

Reading: 29
Listening: 29
Speaking: 29
Writing: 29
Total: 116

I am utterly amazed and can't believe it, now I reserve the right to scream if they don't accept me to the universities! ;)

I know that there is no free sample tests on ets.org. But when you registered for the test, they bestow you a mini sampe test. I think you better to download or borrow longman, kaplan and barron practice tests instead. They will be more helpful.

You really got an amazing score maybe the highest I saw and I think that will rise your chance to be admitted by an US university.

OH goat4 u did amazing . What u did actually ?? :P bcoz really i also never heard any1 scoring that much. Congrats alot.

Yeah!! i am preparing from Barron tests and some other practice tests.
u tell me what happend in your speaking task ?? as you scored low in that as compare to the other parts. Any tips ?? badly need it.

I didn't do much- I had decided to take the test 9 days earlier, so I bought a book (with CDs) and did six tests in it, about one a day, and the ETS example test. My English is fine as I use the internet all the time (lots of writing to people), but I didn't expect to score that high... in part 'cos speaking to a microphone is hardly natural, especially with all that noise around! So apart from reading books/papers in English and speaking to people in English, I have little advice to offer. :/

After you log into your iBT profile on the ETS website, click View Orders, and under the test you have this:

"TOEFL iBT Sampler: Your order entitles you access to a free TOEFL® iBT Sampler. You can view the Sampler now or access it from the View Order(s) link on your home page at any time before the expiration date shown below.
05/01/08 "

As far as my (rather poor) memory serves me, that's the example test.
Let me know if you still can't find it.

I can say that before preparing TOEFL I used to get score between 85-95 after preparing and having real exam my score is 99. So I think that one or two months preparation does not rise your score significantly because If you have a basic knowledge for English language and you achieved a certain level one or two months are not enough to qualify you to upper level.

Speaking:27
Writing:28
Total:113

I just want to say that this is a very intuitive test and you don't have to put too much thought on the separate questions. However, strong vocabulary and grammar is a must in order to get a good score. I spent about 3 weeks preparing for the TOEFL and frankly I thought I would fail. My advice is that you scan through the reading passages and try not to hold your eyes on each word as this is going to slow you down. Make notes!! Even if you don't use them, this is a way of memorizing and ordering the main ideas in your head. Write concise and clear sentences, avoid long ones and try not to repeat words or starting each sentence with "I".

I just gave my exam 4 days back.
Speaking and essay writing went well.
i can't say anything about reading really ... there were 5 passages. 3 of them were really tough with difficult vocb. 2 were easy. i even cudnt finish them on time, like i almost left 4 or 5 questions :( i just tried to check any of the answer in the end. and those questions were of 3 points :(:(:(:(
Listening was fine too , but one lecture was really hard to understand, otherwise it went well 2.
