Which is more correct? (who become determined to conceal a crucial evidence...)

Hi,

I have two sentences I'd like to consult with the forum on.

The first - is the "the" in the second sentence required/correct?

"In this world, men lack any appreciation for housewives’ concerns, wishes, aspirations and brains. Women’s place, as described in this story from the men’s perspective, is in the kitchen..."

The second - is the "a" required/correct:

"...who become determined to conceal a crucial evidence without which the conviction..."

I think the word "the" in the first example you gave is correct but it is not necessary. It would be neccesary if the word after it was "man's" singular and not plural.

In the second sentence the word "a" is actually incorrect. This is an example of how to change the sentence so that the word "a" is correct: "...who become determined to conceal a crucial piece of evidence without which the conviction..."
