Because you sound very interested for your English to be corrected and your willingness to get your English corrected fascinates me, I have decided to show my correction about what you have written here.
| Quote: | I just wanted to say hi coz I'm a newbie here! I came accross this website by mere luck and I got directly attracted to it since I was looking for some help in English! I'm not here to find penpals and stuff because I don't have time for that but I'm here to do all the exercises in order to keep a decent level in English! I spent 4 and a half months in Connecticut as I was working in a summer camp and 8 months in Toronto for a year as a student exchange! I'm graduating with (?) my master degree in geotechnical engineering this year and I'm already considering moving to Canada within the next 3 years (I just want to become more proficient in my job in France first). If anyone wanna correct me or mention a mistake I've made at any time on any subject, you are more than welcome to do so! All critics are good to improve and move on faster! |
I really must say your English is really good, just small mistakes you have made only. |

Thanks a lot Nicholas, I didn't expect anyone to correct me therefore I thoroughly appreciate what you've done! The first 3 mistakes are just stupid spelling mistakes coz I was in hurry that day I typed. The last one bugs me a lot coz that's a huge mistake, I obviously know I gotta say "to MAKE a mistake"! As for the 2nd last one, I don't get what you mean by "I'm graduating with (?) my master degree".
Could you give some advice to do a job on this website? It seems pretty big and I don't where to start with or where to go to do something (besides for the exercises). Is the forum regularly visited by everyone?
Thank you very much again. |

Hello Johan, Well, mistakes happen. I really appreciate your willingness to use English correctly. It doesn't mean that my English is perfect or I am a native speaker of English. I'm a student of the English language as well.
As for 'I'm graduating (?) with my master degree', I wanted to mean that 'graduate' is a verb that doesn't need an object here. Please see the meanings below and which one you first used it for.
| Quote: | Definition: 1. intransitive verb education finish school or college: to receive a diploma or degree after completing a course of study in a school, college, or university Ex:We both graduated from high school in 1996.
2. transitive verb education give a certificate: to give a diploma or degree to a student completing a course of study
3. intransitive verb move up: to move upward from one level or activity to another Ex: I've graduated from skiing to snowboarding.
4. transitive verb mark something with degrees or levels: to mark something with units of measurement 5. transitive verb sort things by differences: to sort things into groups according to quality, size, or type | (encarta.msn.com)
What do you think?
Personally, I think this website is really big as what you think. Many people visit this website every day, though a lot of them don't join in asking but passively visit it. What do you have to do? Well, it's hard to say. There are many different sections you can go in order to improve your English. Like "English Teacher's Explanation (ESL)", it is intended for students to ask questions if any sentence is right or wrong or something. Like 'Engilsh grammar, vocabulary...", you can ask questions about grammar or anything related to vocabulary.
The section we both are now in is New ESL Forum Member to introduce one's self. The section I like best is 'what do you want to talk about', which you can discuss with other people about anything. Choose a topic and talk as if you are trying to improve your English through speaking with other people over a particular topic.
The other parts concern English tests like TOEFL, IELTS, SAT...Students can ask questions about how to pass those tests with a flying color. |

So how should I say exactly? I don't get it!
Well, currently I'm very busy with school but as soon as I get an hour to spare, I'll take advantage of it and do some exercises and hang out on the different sections!
Thanks a lot again for your help. |

| Quote: | | I am graduating my master's degree. | To what I have learnt, Johan, 'graduate' is a intransitive verb here and a noun 'my master's degree' cannot come right after this verb. You might need to place a preposition like 'with' between them (graduate with my master's degree). This is, I think, a better way of grammar.
Hope it helps. |
