I would either replace 'across' with 'through' or say:

He stabbed himself with the/his sword.

Thanks, Conchita.

I want to say that the man was stabbed so hard in the stomach that the sword came out from his back. How do the following sentences sound to you?

Quote:
1- The blow was so hard that the sword went through his body.
2- He stabbed the sword through his body.

Hi Tom

I assume that the man did not stab himself, right? How about this:

He skewered his opponent with his sword.
