Hard to distinguish, but I guess 'grind' is right, LS. Of course, song lyrics can go almost anywhere to create a rhyme, but I suppose the idea of 'the grind' is the boring work-a-day existence most of us share and feel frustrated in:

Informal. A laborious task, routine, or study: the daily grind.
