What is the difference between a name and a designation? This question came as a result of a guy who said that the term aircraft is a name while a reference to the same term as a flying object is a designation.
I really want to know the difference.

.
I don't believe that the guy was right. They are similar, but a name is one kind of designation-- an identifying word or phrase.
