infinitive or ING? Tue Nov 27, 2007 18:45 pm  infinitive or ING?

Hello everyone,

in a power point I've been working on, there is a slide where on the top there is the following title: How can liquefaction hazards be reduced?

and below I put the different possibilities as follow:

Avoiding construction on liquefaction susceptible soils

Building liquefaction resistant structures

Improvement of the soil

Am I right to write "avoiding and building" or should I write "avoid and build"?

Thank you
johan

Hi Johan

I'd suggest using Avoid, Build and Improve.

That way all three of your bullets start the same way, too.

I think it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. You can say Avoid, Build, Improve, or you can say Avoiding, Building, Improving.

You can also do it his way:

Quote:
Liquefaction hazards can be reduced by...

Avoiding construction on liquefaction susceptible soils

Building liquefaction resistant structures

Improving the soil

well actually "by" was in the subtext as it is a power point presentation! you know, you don't write entire sentences in that case!

So both of your solutions are suitable?
