Hi

I just typed this sentence somewhere and wondered whether I was correct. Are the following expressions correct and natural--especially the red parts? If you can think of some other "verbs" carrying the same meanings, please let me know.

1- When the fog thickened, we decided to call it a day.
2- Once the fog thinned (down?), he sat on his horse and rode away.

Number 1 is good.

As for number 2, I doubt we would say that. We would usually say that the fog dissipated, evaporated or went away.
