My media consumption is more than I wish it were, I suppose.
Most of my TV watching is cable news channels (usually the most popular American news channel, which is NOT CNN), cartoons and old comedies from the 1950s. On the weekends, one channel here runs 48 hours of lectures by authors. It's called "BookTV", and sometimes I get captivated by that for two reasons: (1) They often show very fascinating lectures, about subjects I may never imagined existed, by intelligent, informative people, or (2) they often show nonsensical lectures by intellectual imbeciles who are educated far, far beyond their level of intelligence. That second kind of lecture is usually some of the best comedy on TV, but sometimes it's scarier than a horror movie.
On the radio, I listen to political or religious talk shows. That's usually in my car, but as often as not, I drill foreign languages from US government instructional programs, rather than listening to shows.
I have stopped reading my local newspapers, because over the past several years they have deteriorated, but I read a few newspapers online, including business papers and some other ones.
I read any kind of book. At the moment I'm in the middle of three books on completely different subjects. Usually nonfiction and novels at least a century old fascinate me, but I get bored if I read thrillers or most other kinds of popular literature.
By far most of my media consumption now consists of podcasts. I subscribe to at least 20 of them. My favorite ones are on microbiology, psychology and neurology, two or three different religions, business, and history. The podcasts I listen to are in at least four languages. |

I hardly watch TV at all nowadays, not even the news, compared to when I was a student. I am afraid I am now a money grabbling zombie. I really need to re-analyze my purpose of working oversea. Sometimes I feel like I am missing out something in my life. Today I finally had the time to watch one of the DVDs of Malaysian movies sent by my mother months ago. I laughed so hard, a true laugh that I had not had for a very long time. I paused for a time feeling very weird after that. I couldn't remember the last time I really, really laughed. _________________ "Suara rakyat suara keramat." -Anwar Ibrahim. |

TV: Sports (football, basketball, baseball, soccer & golf... mainly), movies (HBO channels & Comcast OnDemand), History Channel, Discovery Channel, Food Network, some Big Four network TV (I like sit-coms).
Radio: Music (duh) and a little bit of sports talk. My music pre-sets are for pop, rock, country, variety (Jack FM -- great), and urban/rap/soul (101.1 The Beat Jams).
In case you're ever in Nashville, or central Tennessee in general... or want to get these online: 107.5 The River (pop) 97.9 (country) 103.3 (country 95.5 The Wolf (country) 102.5 Venus (pop/adult crap/Celine Dion) 102.9 (rock) 101.1 The Beat Jams (hip-hop/R&B) 106.7 The Fan (sports talk)
Magazines: National Geographic & Smithsonian (though I wish my grandparents would get me a subscription to Sports Illustrated instead. hehe).
Newspapers: None... I read news online. Lakeland Times online edition and Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal (jsonline.com) occasionally. _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |
