Help me, I got my TOEFL® score!

HI guys,

Greetings !

I got my TOEFL score, but the reading score was very low Comparing with the other sections. I also expected it will be way better than just one!
This doubtful result made me asking if there is possibility for any technical error.

Reading 1
Listening 23
Speaking 25
Writing 25


What can i do ?? HELP ME ;(

Yes I think it's best you just ask your test center why there is such a discrepancy in your score report.

I am new in this Forum ..... I have the same problem as you.... In reading section my score is only 2 while in other sections it is ~20 ..... what should I do ??.... is it ok to ask the test center about it ??... does it work ??....did u call your test center? and what happened. As I am in same boat as you, it will help me greatly.... is there any possibility of wrong score report.

That sounds totally like an error - and most likely a technical one. To see two such situations like this also shows me it's not a freak one-off situation.

You should absolutely contact ETS and inquire about it. I believe they do have a facility for re-scoring, but I get the feeling if the data had a problem or error the first time around, it may have ended up lost permanently. The reading and listening sections are of course rated automatically (as opposed to speaking and writing which involve some human input).

I wonder how often this sort of problem has happened? Given the time, stress and expense involved in taking the iBT, I feel genuinely sypathetic to anyone who has experienced this sort of situation.

Chase them about it! I think even ETS would have to admit that scores of 1 or 2 in the reading section just do not correlate with scores over 20 in the other sections. It has to be their error.

my girlfriend just made it and got ~20 in all of them and 5 in reading!!!

Make it four here.. I really got upset that my reading section was only 7..:( and speaking, writing and listening were all 20..I tried contacting TOEFL but they said that they can't rescore my reading..I can't believed that I only got 7 in reading since when i took it.. the passage were easy..

To those who posted this problem may i know the location and date when you took the exam? Mine was last Dec 1, 07, Philippines..Can i have the others? maybe with this we can track where is the error part..Thank you.

I got Toefl score, and my sections are : Reading:6 Listening:22 speaaking:19 writing:18 As you can understand easly it is impossible for me to take 6 from reading section.During the exam I did not face any technical problem and I did not face personal problem such as illness, I could easily understand all questions and I gave my answers as I did thousands of times before. Everthing was normal but my reading score is 6! All my course exams and all kind off Toefl materials show that my reading level is better than 20. How can I get just 6 in the reading section while I can get 20's other sections. Speaking and writing section have integrated questions as everybody knows, if my reading is really 6 how i can do integrated questions well???
ETS is making some techical error! I heard same problems from many people in Turkey and all over the world. We are spending both our money and time for this exam but ETS does not care this problem.We should sue ETS! If any lawyer reads these complaints please help us, ETS should pay all its errors offenses!!

What is this !!!5 on Listening!Is it not possible!Itook notes..PLUS how can I have 5 on listening when I have to understant what the speaker says in the writing section and speaking as well.If I was THAT bad the points on the other sections woulld be bad as well!!

That sounds sooo strange. Don't forget that the reading and listening parts are the two that are scored by the computer, not a person. So I believe that it is a kind of damned technical problem. You guys should write them a letter of complaint or something like that. Or write one letter and send it on behave of all of you. This is ridiculous!!!
I am expecting my score on Nov 14.

i could not take that. its really unusual and strange. i am in a very desperate situation. i took the test in Arkadelphia, Arkansas on dec 20th 2008.
I do not know what to do. please help me. is there aby way to appeal to ETS about it? can this technical problem rectified.

Yes, these are all definitely examples of computer error.

You might even like to refer them to this post/thread to show it is not an isolated case. Perhaps someone could come down from an ETS Ivory Tower and explain (1) how these sorts of scores can happen, and (2) what they can do to make up for it.
