is to correct to use false or fake with promise as in this following sentence:

.....they alwasys made false?fake? promises to their natoin....

In that specific sentence, it is better to utilize "false", because "fake" usually means something that appears to be something that it isn't, and "false" usually means something untrue or erroneous.
For you to better understand the difference between these two words, here are a few examples -
They always made false promises to their nation.
The statement was false.
The toy that he had bought turned out fake.
---
And keep in mind that "fake" can also function as a verb, so you could also say, "I faked an illness in order to avoid school today."
