Hi Schoolboy,
Let's look at the sentence you are referring to:
As she's such a nasty little thing, I can see it won't take her long to wrap you round her little finger.
This means, she will have wrapped you round her little finger very soon.

I understand it, but I didn't see this construction <<take her long>>, >>>take him lonf>>> Its translation is <<very soon>>. Am I right? Schoolboy |

It won't take long - it will happen soon. It won't take me long to finish this translation - I'll soon be finished with this translation.

"I wont take her long to wrap you around her fingures"
which means
"She will have you do whatever she wants in a very short time"
if any mistake please correct me |

As she's such a nasty little thing, =1. As she has a nasty little thing or 2.As she is a nasty lttle thing? If 2. is correct,I can't understand how 'she' can be 'a thing'?
If the 1. is corret, what is this: little thing? in these whole sentence?
Many thanks :-) |

'As she is a nasty little thing' is correct.
People are often described as being a certain type of thing. Here are some other examples: she's a bright young thing he's a happy little thing she's a sweet young thing he's a cute little thing she's a mean old thing he's a wicked, miserable old thing.
Used to express and give a reason for one's pity, affection, approval, or contempt for a person or animal have a nice weekend in the country, you lucky thing! the lamb was a puny little thing _________________ Cheers m' dears! |
