What do you do for winter sports? Mon Dec 31, 2007 7:54 am  What do you do for winter sports?

Hi,

I went snowboarding yesterday. I was rusty, since I have not done it in years. I kept on falling on my face and on my back. For most of the part, the snow was soft and fluffy but I swore when I hit the hardened/frozen ones. There is no part of my body that is not aching right now. But it was AWESOME. By the second half of the day, I was already sliding like butter.

So what do you do for sports in winter? Do you prefer skiing? Or ice-skating?

Happy winter and happy new year!

When I was a kid growing up in Minocqua, WI -- a freaking frigid and snowy place from about November to May -- I participated in several winter sports: cross-country and downhill (alpine) skiing, sledding, and a little bit of snowmobiling; I did not own a sled (slang for "snowmobile").

As a kid I couldn't figure out why some people ice-fished. It seemed like it must be the most absolutely boring thing known to mankind -- you put up a tent on the frozen surface of the lake; drill a hole in the ice and drop your fishing line/lure in it; and sit in your tent, waiting for a fish to bite the line, and try to stave off hypothermia.

And then I discovered the joy of alcohol and the pain of women in college (no offense. hehe), and my question was answered. The ice-fisherperson (got to be PC in this case), if he is male, is likely getting drunk off his @ss in his shack, and he's in that shack to get away from the wife/girlfriend/whatever.

hehe

(i'm trying to sound like Tim Allen here. lol)

Look, women go shopping to escape men.. Men, in northern Wisconsin, go ice-fishing to escape women.

I always thought people do ice-fishing for solitude. Anyway, I did saw small children with very very pink cheeks sledding with what looks to me were square buckets. I felt like joining them but the butt won't fit in. Hehe.
