Two questions in GRE Analogy and Antonym Tue Jan 08, 2008 16:52 pm  Two questions in GRE Analogy and Antonym

I am confused with the following two questions, one belongs to Analogy and another antonym:

9. MARVEL : QUOTIDIAN
A. deny: malicious
B. exploit: utilitarian
C. defuse: controversial
D. revere: ancient
E. recoil: delightful

4. IMPLICIT
A. unadulterated
B. overt
C. abstract
D. unequivocal
E. germane

For this first question, I am confused with the answer C and E, which one is correct?
for the second one, B or D ?
pls show your choices and explain the reasons. Thx in advance.

I'm also studying my head off for the GRE, just wanna get it over it, so sick of it.

MARVEL : QUOTIDIAN
A. deny: malicious
B. exploit: utilitarian
C. defuse: controversial
D. revere: ancient
E. recoil: delightful

I think the answer is E. One wouldn't marvel at something that's quotidian because it's commonplace and happens everyday. On the same token, one wouldn't recoil or fall back at something that's delightful.
A. one wouldn't deny something malicious? doen't really work
B. one wouldn't exploit something utilitarian? nonsense
C. one wouldn't defuse something controversial? weird
D. one woudln't revere something ancient? it's the other way around.

IMPLICIT
A. unadulterated
B. overt
C. abstract
D. unequivocal
E. germane

implicit means implied. I think it's B. overt meaning open and obvious.

Best luck to you.

the suggested answer for analogy is C

Oh, no, that means I'm so not ready for the TEST!! I understand why unequivocal is the opposite of implicit because unequivocal means clear and unambiguous; but overt also seems to work. For the analogy question, if the BEST answer is C, the only rationale I can come up with is that people are unlikely to marvel at something that's quotidian as they are unlikely to defuse something that's controversial. Defuse means to lessen the danger or hostility.
gosh, i'm soooo worried.
