just wonder if it is grammatically correct to say"
"I had been living in an hotel for some days before I left..."

Hi Kwfine,

The article that is used before the word hotel is "a". So you can say "I had been staying at a hotel....".

I learnt from an article that some people write an hotel instead a hotel, because they think the letter h in "hotel" is consonant.

I think most native speakers of English pronounce the H in hotel, and therefore they also use 'a'.

I think only the (few) people who drop the H sound and pronounce the word hotel as o-tel would say "an hotel".

The letter H is a consonant
The letter O (for example) is a vowel.
