What does the restaurant side of the store mean? Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:16 am  What does the restaurant side of the store mean?

Hi, guys

Taking the advice of a friend,Yang converted half of his shop to a restaurant, where he sold steamed soup dumplings and desserts. Soon, the restaurant side of the store took over the entire business.

1.What does the restaurant side of the store mean here?

2.Take over here means get control. Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

Remember that half his business was turned into a restaurant. That means one side of the building was a store, and the other a restaurant. "The restaurant side of the store" means the side of his store that was converted into a restaurant.

"Took over" doesn't mean to take control in this situation, because Yang was in control. It means that the restaurant became so prosperous that it dominated the whole business, and eventually the store was eliminated so that the whole building could become a bigger restaurant.
