Sham, ebooks are not illegal. The files you had posted where scanned copies of physical books. Somebody took the physical book, scanned and converted it into a PDF file and uploaded that file onto a server. It's similar to publishing copy righted MP3 files for free download.

If you want to increase your vocabulary and pronounciation .
All you have to do is learn a new word every day.
make a practice of this and you will get good score in english or toefl.
Choose a new word and use that word in every sentence as possible for a whole day.

This is a very good idea, and if you're looking for a better way to do it (you know, personally, I'd forget to go take the dictionary and pick up a word every day) rather than leafing through a dictionary there is this very good website, Dictionary.com, which has a sort of 'newsletter' called 'Word Of The Day'. if you submit your email to this newsletter, they'll email you a different word every day, along with its pronunciation, meaning, etymology and everything you need to know about that word.

This website also have a branch called 'Thesaurus.com'. I started to go look some thesaurus up (synonyms of words) often, especially for words we use everyday. We don't wanna repeat always the same word in an essay, so variety of vocabulary is a good thing to achieve at least for basic, easy words we use regularly.

my 2 cents, hope it'll be of some help!
