Hi Juliet,
Thanks a lot for joining our community. Where in Canada do you live and how did you get there? Your English is very good and I'm it will get even better if you ask a lot of grammar questions here on the forum.

Welcome, Juliet.
Your English does seem to be quite good already. There are a few errors in your text, but most of it sounds good. Is your English class an ESL class, or is it a native-speaker English class?
Do you still speak Chinese at home? Do you do any reading in English outside of school? What are your hobbies?
Just keep working on improving, and don't get discouraged. My nephew is 14, and even though he is a native speaker of English, his English marks have also gone down this year. So, you see, this can happen to native speakers of English, too.
Judging from your post, I'd say you should also do some work on your vocabulary and usage. So that you will better understand what I mean, here are two of your first sentences along with some suggestions for improvement.
Your original text: I've been on this site for only a week before I couldn't take the appeal anymore and decided to register. The perfect chance to practice language seemed way too good to pass down.

I live in Toronto, Ontario. I think your website is great. I also have a website using phpBB forum and one thing that is tough for every forum is to stay active and interesting. You have achieved that by showing a genuine interest in what every member has to say. I think what you are doing right now is great. Keep up the good work! |

Wow, I feel so fortunate that I can receive some feedbacks from an english teacher! This is awesome! RESIST! That word was on the tip of my fingers, yet I just couldn't find it! >< Oh yes! I just found the phrase that I was desperately trying to find yesterday. "couldn't resist the temptation anymore". Goodness, that took me a day to find it.
Anyhow, thank you so much for encouraging me and saying that my english is good. I'm very surprised because hardly anyone says that me, perhaps it's because the vocab used in oral english can never be as advanced as writing. I am currently enrolled in a native-english class.
I speak chinese at home mostly because my parents are new immigrants like myself and older people don't pick up language as easily as kids. I read, just not that much. I enjoy reading fantasy, romance, diaries, and classics. Maybe I should really check out Pride and Prejudice next time I visit the library. -.- I hardly read any of the popular books partly because I never take my time waiting for them. My hobbies! I enjoy window-shopping, volunteering (I just got into a volunteer program in my local hospital HURRAY!), making websites, reading fictionpress and fanfiction, writing impossible-romance stories, taking Tickle tests, playing piano (I'm learning Butterfly Walts)... That's it for now.
Before I do anything, I always take my time considering whether it's educational or not. So... tell me a little about yourself, like where do you live, how long you've been teaching english, which grade you teach (I have a feeling you are a high school/middle school teacher, just from the way you talk)... |
