Phrasal verbs: Watch over/ Give away #1 (permalink) Sun Feb 03, 2008 20:33 pm   Phrasal verbs: Watch over/ Give away

I am trying to make a sentence with these two verbs, but I hesitate when placing the pronoun.

Here are my examples:

a.- I gave HER away a book, or should it be... I gave away a book to HER?

b.- My mother watches ME over... or should it be... My mother watches over ME?

Thanks in advance!

Phrasal verbs: Watch over/ Give away #2 (permalink) Mon Feb 04, 2008 4:14 am   Phrasal verbs: Watch over/ Give away

a. - I gave a book away to her.
(But it would be more common just to say, "I gave a book to her," or, "I gave her a book.")

b. - My mother watches over me.
(In this case, "watch over" is not a phrasal verb with a movable particle, but a verb and a preposition.)
