Hi lxguy

If the person who wrote your sentence had been looking at 'tomatoes and fish' as separate foods, then the sentence would have been this:
My favourite foods are tomatoes and fish.

Because the word 'food' was used, the words 'tomatoes and fish' were viewed jointly.

Isn't food an uncountable noun?
