medium-term turned immediate goal? #1 (permalink) Thu Feb 07, 2008 12:16 pm   medium-term turned immediate goal?

Hi,

Could you take a look at the following sentence, please? I understand that equipping the trainers initially was a medium-term goal which at some point turned into an immediate goal. Is that right?

Thanks a lot,
Torsten

A medium-term turned immediate goal of ours is to equip trainers with a training template....

TOEIC listening, question-response: How many times a day does that copier go wrong?

Hi Torsten,

I agree with you in your explanation but when you speak it, it does seem a bi of a mouthful. I would suggest it needs to be broken up as perhaps:

Quote:
A medium-term now turned immediate goal of ours is to equip trainers with a training template....

Hi Alan,

I'm amazed at the speed you sometimes answer these questions! Thanks a lot for your immediate response.

I think the sentence is both grammatical and nonsensical at the same time.

What is the difference between a medium-term goal and an intermediate goal? They're the same thing. It's like talking about a human being who turned into a person, or a dog that turned into a canine.

The really funny thing about this sentence is that is was written by the staff of an English language training company.
