. These are the answers:
There are a lot of/many/some potatoes in the garden.
Potatoes are countable until they have been mashed or otherwise incorporated into a meal and no longer resemble individual vegetables. _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |

Hi Mister Micawber,
the workbook has been returned, but my score surprised my friends and me a lot! You probably dont to believe that the sentence "there are some potatoes in the garden" is wrong.
I asked for reasons, and she explained that

Chicken is uncountable and so are potatoes and tomatoes. So it's better to say "there is some chicken." "there is some potatoes". and "there is some tomatoes". |
I doubt if she is correct! _________________ 各位前輩安安, 我是kitty喔! |

. You're right: she's wrong.
Of course, few things are really wrong in English-- we often say There's rather than There're because it is easier to pronounce:
"There's seven sandwiches in the fridge for you." . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |
