. In the US, we use expressions such as summer vacation, spring break and semester break. It depends on why the school is closed. When there is a lot of snow, we just say that the 'schools were closed' or that the kids had 'a snow day'.
This might be a sentence you'd hear, for example: Come see me after spring break. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

Hi Tom,
In my small island we would say: Come and see me when school's over.

Hi Tom
The sentence I gave you would basically be used to mean "come see me when school is no longer closed/when school is in session again/when spring break is over/after the break".
I'd interpret Alan's sentence to mean basically the opposite -- i.e. "come and see me during the break/when school is closed". . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |
