TOEFL essay: Although some people are afraid of changes I support... #1 (permalink) Sat Mar 01, 2008 12:56 pm   TOEFL essay: Although some people are afraid of changes I support...

Although some people are afraid of changes I support the construction of a large shopping center in my neighborhood. Three reasons convince me that this facility offers numerous advantages for my community.

First of all, the nearest shop from my house is 20 miles away, which poses a problem for senior citizens and poor families who don't own a car. Therefore, they always need somebody who drives them to the shop. The use of public transportation services is not an option because it is very dangerous due to the high crime rate in my town. In addition, people will spend less time and fuel in order to drive to the shop.

Second, the center will offer lots of new jobs to the unemployed people in my city. As a result of the high unemployment rate these jobs are necessary to increase the living standard and prevent people from leaving their homes. For example, I'm looking for a new employment since last year's Christmas because the car factory closed after the big fire on Christmas Eve. Therefore, I would welcome this opportunity for a well-paid position in a reputated company.

Finally, new businesses will increase the amount of money the city can spend as a result of higher tax income. The additional taxes are needed to renovate the public schools. For instance, the elementary school I visited as a child suffers from a roof, which doesn't protect the pupils from the rain anymore.

What conclusions, can be drawn from all this? The arguments we have presented would indicate that my neighborhood will benefit from a new shopping center. Consequently, I'm looking forward to the opening.
