Well, that depends. If you're really motivated and can stick to a study schedule, and haven't been out of school for a while, then self prep should be fine. If you aren't really good at standardized tests and learn better in a class environment or at least with an instructor to work with (online or in a classroom), a class would definitely be the way to go.

Have you started to prep at all yet?

hi viking23,

Than you for the reply. I have started the vocab in barron's. I have been out of school for about 2 years. I am good at math in school and can handle the usual english.

Well, I would do some overall review before you decide. You've already started on the vocab, which is good. Get some additional materials to round out your prep, like Cracking the GRE (best review IMO and most accurate practice tests) and Powerprep, the official tests. Go through the entire Cracking book and take a test. See how it feels, what your weaknesses are. Then you'll get a good idea if you'd do ok on your own or if you should take a class.

I have heard from those who experianced both choices: If you have good motivation to study it alone, preparation course is waste of money.

Preparation course gives you exact idea of actual test and gives mock tests. Ppl just gives the information they know the best and that can't be 100% reliable as different ppl says different stories.

But preparation course have some drawbacks also: http://gre1600score.com/index.php?pid=21
