Dear Alan Townend, Thank You very much for the article. I think the article is very excellent, and I hope it can improve my knowledge in English.
Now, I am taking American Studies program in one of universities in Indonesia. That's why, I learn about the coming of England people to American hundred years ago. Therefore, your article gave me a new perspective about the historical backgorund of the coming England people to America. Thanks!
Again, through this newsletter I hope we can share our thought especially in English language. I confess, my English is very poor so your help is useful for me. Yours faithfully, Rahmad Hidayat |

Hi Alan!
Sorry for my absence on line and not answering you. Now there are some changes in my life and at my job. I now work as a camp manager in a Canadian firm called "Arctic Construction". But I always read your essays, please continue sending them to me. Ok?! I don't answer because I am very busy.
Sincerely yours, Gulba. |

Dear Mr.Alan.
Thank you for your instant reply. Please receive my excuse for my late response.
Infact, I had a lot of things to do during the last several weeks. I have already visited your recommended websites. I can learn some techniques in designing exercises for self-study students. And some exercises can be used in my English programme.
However, I would like to ask you for some theoretical bias for designing such kind of materials. Because I'm graduate student of English for Science and Technology, my knowledge of material development is rather limited. All of my work is mostly based on my experience and information taken from books, and Internet articles. Do you see my point?
Maybe you don't understand my materials that I'm now developing. That is materials (including about 8 units/level) that remote learning students will do at home with no teacher. They have to study by themselves. After finishing that book, students are required to take an online test. And when students finish the course (Upper-Intermediate), they are expected to get a score of 500points in Toeic test.
So for this case, have you had any similar experiences? or do you know any books that I can refer? Thanks a lot again for your kindness.
Best regards, Tram Huong. |

Dear Alan Townend,
I have been finding your emails tremendously teaching. Thank you for that.
In one of your emails, you mentioned several English accents I am going to ask you a question, but my question may sound silly. Is it possible for a foreigner to learn one of the accents? I am asking this because I have been doing all my efforts but my accent always sound different from that of my friends Native from the UK.
Kind regards, Irene |
