Should it be "release" or "releases"?

"When an artist like Rapoon or Pete Namlook only release 1,000 copies of an album, you have to act fast."

Because the verb in this sentence refers to "an artist" the correct conjugation would be "releases". Rapoon and Pete Namlook in this sentence are examples of who "an artist" could be
