I forgot the title of it.

In this case you would say I forgot its title.

Actually, I'd say "I forget the title" if I mean that I can't remember the title at the moment.

Using 'forgot' suggests that I did not remember something at some point in the past, but in the meantime it's quite possible that I now remember.
