Sometimes when you are speaking to someone on phone, the voice you hear isn't continuous because of disturbance in the phone line.

Can we say "The voice is breaking" in this case?

Is there a better way to put it?

On second thoughts, "breaking up" doesn't sound right.

Nina, you were correct.

When the phone connection fades in and out (especially when using a cell phone) you can say 'you're breaking up'.
