"my stay in hospital "

Why we use "my" but not "I" here?

What is the different between "my stay in hospital" and "I stay in hospital "

my stay in hospital-- This is not a sentence; it is a noun phrase. 'My' is an adjective, so 'stay' is a noun.

I stay in hospital for a week every year.-- 'I' is the subject of the sentence and 'stay' is the verb.
