Which is the subject? (People putting meat on my food MAKE(S) me mad) #1 (permalink) Wed Mar 12, 2008 2:36 am   Which is the subject? (People putting meat on my food MAKE(S) me mad)

Hello

Which of the following sentences is correct?

People putting meat on my food MAKE me mad

People putting meat on my food MAKES me mad

I think "putting" is the subject because it is a gerund but i'm not exactly sure because "people" sounds like the subject too

Thanks

Hi,

'Putting meat IN my food' describes what the people are doing. If you mean that particular action, the verb will be 'makes'. If you are referring to the people themselves, the verb would be 'make'.

Hi

Thanks but which one would you use? To me, either people make me mad or the action makes me mad are the same or both make me mad.

Which one best describes "both"
