Why is disperse is the good answer here and when are we suppose to use dispose?

A crowd or a group of people can disperse, that means they move in different direction and scatter.

To dispose has a different meaning. You can dispose of something, that means you deal with it. Also, dispose usually requires the preposition of.

dispose of /phrasal verb/= finish with sb/sth
get rid of sb/sth
deal with sb/sth

-to dispose of rubbish
-The dictator soon disposed of his opponent.=by putting them in prison

But we can use without preposition.
1. dispose sth/sb= place persons, objects in a suitable position.
-Man proposes, God disposes. /proverb/

2. dispose sb to do sth = make willing or ready
-Your news disposes me to believe that...
-I am not disposed/ don't feel disposed to help you.

set expression:be well/ ill disposed/towards/ = be not friendly and helpful:
-Most of the newspapers seem to be well disposed towards the new cabinet.
