critical reading: 620
math: 740
writing: 740 (essay 10)
total: 2100

first time taking it, and I'm signed up to take it again in May. are my scores good or should I improve on them?

based on the old SAT scoring system, your score would be approximately 1400, which is/was an excellent score.

With a 1400 you would have no problem getting into the vast majority of US undergraduate programs, and would be a competitive applicant -- at least based on those scores -- at the rest.

The only stretch for you might be the very top schools -- Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, U of Chicago, Columbia, etc.

But 1400 is a competitive score even at those schools.
