1) I prayed God and entered the room
2) I prayed to God and entered the room

Can someone please tell me which of the above two sentences is correct? Is pray transitive or intransitive?

Hi,

'Pray' is followed by 'to' + object. If you say: 'I prayed God', you would have to follow this with a wish/request form as in: I prayed God would help me.

In an attempt to cover your intended meaning, daemon, I put forth the following options:

- I prayed to God and entered the room. (I prayed to God and then I entered the room)
- I prayed to God and He entered the room.
- I prayed that God would enter the room.
