Hi Stew, I agree with you if you change your sentence to ".... a word you're saying". Alternatively, you can say, "... what you are talking about".

1. I can't understand a word that you are talking about.

I agree that this sentence isn't quite right, if the context is "I don't understand you". Usually, you don't talk about words; you use words to talk about other things.

In the context of lexicography, of course, the sentence might make sense.

Hello Torsten,
I'm really disappoited because of no answer for my questions.
I don't understand them, so I'm awaiting a response from you or anyone who masters them. The time is going by and I don't see anything. How depressed I am now, Mister!

Hi Hothu,

Quote:
1. Is WHO in the sentence "Who leaves last should turn off the lights" a Relative pronoun?
2. "I don't know who told you that.", "who told you that" is a noun clause, isn't it? "Who" is a pronoun, isn't it a relative pronoun?
3. Can WHOEVER be used as a Relative pronoun?

1.) 'Who' is indeed a relative pronoun and also 'whoever' and in that sentence it would be best to use 'whoever'
2.) This isn't a noun clause but a relative clause
3.) Yes

Hi Torsten,

I got 9 out of 10. I can see from the forum that most of people get confuded with who and whom, even me!!

I think it would be a good idea if you can explain the difference further.

Many thanks

Hi Emil,

Please take each test several times -- not just one time. It's important for you to take each test until you get all the answers right. To read lesson number 11, please click here.

In addition, please read how to improve my writing skills.

Many thanks,
Torsten
