Could you please help me with this usage?

Nothing short of it

I'd say the most common wording for this expression would be "nothing short of + [an extreme sort of adjective or noun]". Your sentence is a little unusual in that it uses the pronoun 'it' rather than an adjective. However, the word 'it' does refer back to the idea of 'boring'.

Here are some examples, Tom:

- His unwillingness to accept that this usage is widespread in the US is nothing short of obstinate.

- Frankly, his reaction was nothing short of bizarre.

- The fact that she survived was nothing short of a miracle.
